One of the greatest Montroses ever made, the 2010 may be even better than the 2009, although both are legendary wines from this estate that has been on a qualitative roll for over a decade. A blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, the wine has a pH of 3.75 and a high alcohol level of 14.5% (higher than the 2009). The wine possesses an opaque purple color as well as a stunning bouquet of blueberry and blackberry liqueur intermixed with hints of spring flowers, licorice and subtle smoke and background oak. The wine is full-bodied, massively concentrated, but incredibly pure and precise with laser-like focus. The finish goes on for nearly a minute. This is a 50- to 60-year wine, and one of the all-time great classics made at this estate. Forget it for a decade and drink it over the following 50 years.

This is a wine with incredible depth and power with so much ripe fruit and velvety tannins. It’s full and super silky. It shows blueberry, blackberry, and hints of flowers. It’s a wine with fabulous polish and beauty. It goes on for minutes. Try in 2020 but so wonderful now.
