Tasting Notes
Appearance: Bright to moderately deep crimson-ruby, with a youthful colour and good concentration for the 2021 vintage.
Aroma: Fragrant and expressive, led by raspberry, red cherry and darker red fruit, with nuances of plum and dark currant. Floral notes of peony and rose petal add elegance, while subtle earth, spice and a restrained touch of oak provide additional complexity.
Palate: Medium-bodied and finely structured, with concentrated raspberry and red-fruit flavours supported by bright acidity and refined tannins. The texture is supple and polished, combining generous fruit with freshness and structure. Subtle earthy and peppery notes emerge toward the finish, which remains fresh, balanced and persistent.
Description
Domaine Drouhin-Laroze Gevrey-Chambertin "Dix Climats" 2021 is a village-level Pinot Noir from Gevrey-Chambertin in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits. Rather than representing a single vineyard, "Dix Climats" means "ten climats" and refers to the domaine's approach of blending fruit from multiple Gevrey-Chambertin village parcels to create a broader expression of the appellation.
Produced from 100% Pinot Noir, the 2021 vintage was vinified with approximately 15% whole bunches and matured with approximately 30% new oak. This relatively restrained use of whole clusters and new oak allows the freshness and aromatic character of the cooler 2021 vintage to remain prominent while adding structure and complexity.
